Koraku-gama kiln, Japan
Fuminari Araga is known for a highly refined wheel-throwing technique that produces distinctive silhouettes with beautifully balanced curves. His “uma-darai” (horse-trough) pieces take their form from the wide, shallow basins once used to wash horses, reinterpreted in kohiki (white slip) and black-glaze finishes as everyday tableware with an unusual, sculptural profile.
